CNC Laser Cutting

Metal CNC Laser Cutting technology has revolutionised the sheet metal fabrication industry, and Rockpress has been at the forefront of this technology from the start.  Our traditional laser cutters use nitrogen, oxygen and compressed air cutting technology, which provides complete accuracy, clean cutting and minimal heat residue. The maximum sheet size we can accommodate is 4000mm x 2000mm.

In 2017 we took delivery of a state-of-the-art TRUMPF TruLaser 3030 6kW Fibre Laser with RotoLas tube cutting attachment. This machine uses an optical cable as opposed to the traditional CO2 Lasers.  The 3030 enables us to cut Copper and Brass and has a superior cutting quality and speed, in particular on lighter gauges. Another major advantage this machine has is in the cutting of Aluminium, the conventional CO2 lasers will generally leave dross (in particular on heavy gauges) on the cut edge which requires secondary work to remove. This new fibre laser will enable us to cut up to 25mm thick Aluminium with no secondary work required.

As all cutting instructions and patterns are saved to each machine’s computer memory, repeat work can be completed quickly and with accuracy that is identical to any previous work. The advantage of CNC Laser Cutting over Guillotining is in the finish. CNC Laser Cutting is clean and precise – leaving no burrs on edges and corners of the scored material. Rockpress can even incorporate a discreet radius into the process to completely eliminate sharp corners.

We can cut a variety of materials including Carbon steel, Mild steel, Stainless steel, Zinc Coated steel, Galvanised steel, Aluminium, Copper and Brass.

Our TRUMPF TruLaser precision laser machines can handle almost any steel cutting challenge, including:

  • Quench and Tempered Steel, up to 25mm thick
  • Carbon (Structural) Steel, up to 25mm thick
  • Stainless Steel (Austenitic, Ferritic, Martensitic and Duplex), up to 25mm thick
  • Aluminium, up to 16mm thick
  • Zinc Coated and Zinc/Aluminium Coated
  • Copper
  • Brass

Where Can I Use Steel CNC Laser Cutting In My Design?

While steel CNC laser cutting may not seem like the most common of techniques when it comes to building, it is becoming more and more popular as a method for design not only in construction, but also in landscaping, and commercial shop fitting. Given that steel is an incredibly strong and resilient material, it is no wonder that more and more people are turning to this material for everything from artwork to practical pieces in their business. Shopfitters use steel cutting to ensure that the materials they are using to fit out a shop are strong, and able to withstand the weight that the fixtures must bear. By using custom steel cutting they are also able to ensure that every piece is made to the exact measurements and that there will be no issues with pieces being too large or too small.

Landscapers are beginning to use steel cutting more and more as a method with which to bring an additional dimensional level to the design of the gardens that they are landscaping. From using cut and designed steel pieces to demarcate specific areas of a garden, to setting a centrepiece for the entire garden, there is no end of possibilities for the professional landscape artist when it comes to steel cutting and landscape design. What’s even better is that it can be tailored to the owners of the garden, ensuring that their garden is truly a personal reflection of their style.  And every landscape artist knows that gardens should reflect the personality of the people who live in the house attached to the garden.

Why choose Metal CNC Laser Cutting in Brisbane?

Lasers are widely used in many practices today when cutting is involved. Doctors routinely use them instead of scalpels as do dentists instead of drills, as they offer a more precise and accurate cut. In a medical setting, they can also minimise bleeding in a patient due to the cut. In an industrial setting CNC Laser Cutting in Brisbane is often preferred because of its accuracy and because of how it affects the metal as it’s being cut.

Using lasers will mean a precise and accurate cut of any metal, and it means cutting thicker metals that often cannot be cut by standard metal blades. When you have hardened metals such as steel or thicker sheets of metal, you may need to use CNC laser cutting in Brisbane just to get the job done.

The laser itself often shears the metal more cleanly than a blade which is also of benefit when cutting metal. This means less flaking and blurs over the metal so there are no sharp edges. You’ll need to worry less about rust and corrosion and erosion of your metal at the cut point when you use lasers.

You have many options available to you when it comes to metal cutting, but often CNC laser cutting in Brisbane is the best choice no matter the job you have at hand. It means a quicker and more accurate cut, so it’s definitely the choice to consider when you need metalwork done for your manufacturing or for your end product.

Know the different types of Steel Cutting

The right steel cutting in Brisbane is needed for any type of metalwork, from scrollwork that creates artistic designs to simply guillotine cuts that slice the metal into workable parts. You may be surprised at your options today when it comes to cutting work you can have done, and knowing those options will mean being able to shape and form you metal as needed.

Artistic metalwork can be used just for artistic reasons; you might add some visual interest to your metal gates or fencing or to outside furniture if you use some scrolling cuts. Metal artwork adds a great flair to modern homes and is timeless and classic while still being updated, and it goes with any type of dcor as well. You can also use these types of cuts for your advertising and marketing; use steel cutting in Brisbane to include your company name, brand name, or logo onto metal you might advertise on your property.

Laser steel cutting in Brisbane is often the most accurate and typically the most powerful. A laser is simply a concentrated beam of light but because it can be more readily controlled than a steel blade, it can produce a more accurate cut. This may be the best choice for heavy metals that are difficult to control during cutting or for lighter metals that tend to break away when being cut. These are just some of your options for steel cutting in Brisbane.
